The Temple of Philae is an island in the Nile River and the previous site of an Ancient Egyptian temple complex in southern Egypt. The complex was dismantled and relocated in 1960 by UNSECO, to the nearby island of Agilika (about 550 meteres away), when the building of the Aswan Dam threatened to flood the site.
The Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis is in a beautiful setting which has been landscaped to match the original site.
Other ancient remains besdies the Temple of Philae include The Vestibule of Nectanebos I, the Temple of the Emperor Hadrian, the Temple of Hathor, the Temple of Imhotep, Trajan's Kiosk (Pharaohs Bed), the Chapel of Mandulis and the Gate of Ptolemy II. These monuments of various eras, extending from the Pharaohs to the Caesars, occupy nearly the whole island.
